Along a remote stretch of desert coastline in Baja California, Mexico, an extraordinary abundance of marine life gathers each year as the sardine run begins, offering some of the most intimate wildlife encounters found anywhere in the ocean.
The waters here come alive. Whales rise up from below. Sea lions and dolphins move through in groups. Striped marlin, among the fastest fish in the ocean, move together with remarkable speed and grace. Sharks pass close by, seabirds gather above, and on rare occasions, even orca appear. Few places bring so many species together in the same water at once, offering a rare chance to feel genuinely connected to the life of the open ocean.

Baja, Mexico
Baja, Mexico, is a captivating pelagic bucket-list destination for all ocean lovers. It is also known for its stunning landscapes, rich culture, and vibrant and productive coast line. Baja’s iconic landscape, where desert meets sea, offers unmissable and unforgettable experiences. Common sightings include massive bait balls of sardines or mackerel, attracting predators such as striped marlin, sea lions, dolphins, turtles, skipjack tuna, and a variety of seabirds like pelicans, frigate birds, cormorants, and seagulls. Towards the end of the year, this productive region becomes a hotspot for an extraordinary natural spectacle, the aggregation of hunting Striped Marlin. Striped Marlin (Kajikia audax), unlike other marlin species, will school to hunt. With their lightning speed and immense agility, hunting marlin is truly a once in a lifetime sight to behold.
Arrival in Baja
We will start our trip in La Paz and take our private shuttle for a three to four hour ride north to a fishing community in Magdalena Bay. Here you will enjoy beachside glamping accommodation that offers stunning views of Baja's breathtaking scenery.
Ocean Odyssey
Every day you will head out onto the water, following wherever the wildlife leads. One day it might be striped marlin lighting up as they move together. Another, sea lions or dolphins crossing your path, or a whale surfacing close to the boat. You never quite know what the ocean will offer, and that's exactly what makes it exciting.
You'll enjoy a light lunch on the boat before heading back to your beachfront accommodation, where afternoons are left for rest, sunset hikes and beach walks taking in the iconic landscapes of this part of the world, before winding down around the bonfire as evening sets in.
